World Liberty Financial Acquires Ethereum Domains Following Trump Meme Coin Surge

World Liberty Financial (WLF), a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform tied to President-elect Donald Trump, has made headlines once again with its recent acquisition of Ethereum domain names through the Ethereum Name Service (ENS). This move comes hot on the heels of the launch of Trump’s official meme coin, further fueling speculation about the platform’s future plans.
Ethereum Domains Spark Speculation
Late Sunday evening, WLF registered four Ethereum domains—worldliberty.eth, trumpcoin.eth, erictrump.eth, and barrontrump.eth—via bulk transfers, according to on-chain data reviewed by Etherscan. The purchases, first highlighted by The Kobeissi Letter on social media, have raised questions about the possibility of additional meme coins linked to the Trump family.
This move follows a significant purchase of over $48 million worth of Ethereum by WLF, just a day after the launch of Trump’s meme coin, $TRUMP. Erin Redwing, CEO of Ordinals-based events company Inscribing Atlantis, speculated that these actions align with WLF’s pattern of leveraging Trump’s brand for meme coin projects.
The Trump Family’s Growing Crypto Footprint
To date, the Trump family has launched two meme coins: $TRUMP and $MELANIA, with $MELANIA introduced by Melania Trump shortly after her husband’s launch. Another unofficial token tied to Barron Trump has surfaced on Solana, adding to the family’s expanding presence in the crypto space.
While the Trump family’s foray into meme coins garners significant attention, WLF’s latest Ethereum domain acquisitions hint at broader ambitions within the blockchain ecosystem. However, the platform has yet to clarify how these domains will be utilized.
What Is World Liberty Financial?
World Liberty Financial describes itself as a "US-based decentralized platform" that promotes the values of liberty, privacy, and the freedom to transact. The platform’s branding leans heavily on Donald Trump’s celebrity status, listing him as its "Chief Crypto Advocate," with his sons serving as "Web3 Ambassadors."
Despite its ties to Trump, WLF maintains that it is apolitical. Its official documentation explicitly states that the platform and its token, WLFI, are not affiliated with any political campaign. The WLFI token, launched in October 2024, has unique limitations: all tokens are non-transferable and indefinitely locked unless changes are approved through governance mechanisms.
