Remote Launches USDC Stablecoin Payments for Contractors via Stripe on Base

Remote, a global human resources and payroll services provider, has announced a new stablecoin payment option that allows U.S.-based employers to compensate contractors in 69 countries using digital currency. The feature, which leverages USDC stablecoin on Base, Coinbase’s Layer 2 blockchain network, aims to deliver faster, near-instant transactions while maintaining compliance with local regulations.

The move reflects a broader trend as companies look beyond traditional geographic boundaries and turn to more flexible hiring models. With contractor management growing rapidly on the Remote platform, stablecoin payouts are intended to simplify the entire compensation process. Employers can manage onboarding, invoicing, and payment for international talent from a single dashboard, potentially reducing both administrative complexity and transaction delays.

To receive payment in USDC, contractors simply select the stablecoin option on Remote’s platform and add their Base Network wallet address. Meanwhile, employers continue to fund these transactions in U.S. dollars, just as they would with conventional payment methods. By adopting this approach, Remote hopes to offer greater choice for contractors who may prefer a payment method that avoids volatile exchange rates or slow international bank transfers.

“Paying global talent quickly, reliably, and in a manner that suits their preferences is a significant challenge,” said Job van der Voort, CEO and co-founder of Remote, in the announcement. “By integrating stablecoin payouts through Stripe, we’re meeting a real need expressed by our customers, giving them the tools to reward their worldwide contractors without sacrificing simplicity or compliance.”

As Remote’s stablecoin integration gains traction, it may signal a growing willingness within the HR and payroll sector to embrace digital currencies. This shift could help companies remain competitive in today’s borderless talent market, positioning them to attract and retain skilled professionals no matter where those workers call home.
