Real Estate Firm Fathom to Buy Bitcoin, Latest to Adopt BTC Treasury Strategy

Fathom Holdings, a publicly traded real estate technology company, is the latest firm to embrace Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset. Following in the footsteps of companies like MicroStrategy, Fathom's board of directors has approved a plan to allocate up to half of its excess cash reserves to Bitcoin, with purchases expected to begin within the next two weeks.

Joining the Ranks: Fathom Follows MicroStrategy's Lead

Fathom's move reflects a growing trend among publicly traded companies to incorporate Bitcoin into their treasury management strategies. The company, which also offers cloud computing services, plans to buy Bitcoin directly and may also explore investing through Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Fathom CFO Joanne Zach cited Bitcoin's potential as both an inflation hedge and a safeguard against economic and currency risks as key drivers behind the decision. "The integration of Bitcoin into commercial and financial strategies has accelerated across financial markets," she stated.

The MicroStrategy Effect: A Blueprint for Corporate Bitcoin Adoption

Fathom isn't alone in its Bitcoin ambitions. MicroStrategy, the pioneer of the corporate Bitcoin treasury strategy, now holds over $47 billion worth of the cryptocurrency and has seen its market capitalization and share price surge as a result. MicroStrategy even joined the ranks of the Nasdaq-100 last year, a testament to its success. Other companies, including Semler Scientific, Cosmos Health, and Worksport, have also adopted Bitcoin as a treasury asset.

ETFs Make It Easier: Bitcoin More Accessible Than Ever

The recent approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. has made it easier than ever for companies to gain exposure to Bitcoin, potentially accelerating this trend. Fathom's decision also hints at a future where Bitcoin could be accepted as payment for its services, further integrating the cryptocurrency into its business operations.
