Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Holdings to 2,100 BTC with $6.6M Purchase

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has deepened its commitment to Bitcoin, acquiring an additional 68 BTC worth approximately $6.6 million, bringing its total holdings to 2,100 BTC, valued at around $203 million.
The Tokyo-listed company disclosed the purchase on Thursday, stating it bought 68.59 BTC at an average price of $96,335 per coin. This expansion underscores Metaplanet's ongoing Bitcoin accumulation strategy, which was first announced in April 2024.
Aggressive Bitcoin Accumulation Plan
Since unveiling its Bitcoin-focused investment approach, Metaplanet has significantly increased its holdings from 141 BTC in June 2024 to its current 2,100 BTC, representing approximately 0.01% of Bitcoin's total supply.
Looking ahead, the firm remains committed to its ambitious goal of holding 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026, solidifying its position as one of Japan's most prominent institutional Bitcoin investors.
Stock Performance Reflects Bitcoin Bet
Metaplanet’s bullish stance on Bitcoin appears to be resonating with investors. The company's stock closed up 2.78% at 6,290 yen on Thursday, according to Yahoo Finance. Year-to-date, Metaplanet shares have climbed 80.75%, with a 427.24% surge over the past six months. This rise contrasts with the Nikkei 225 index, which dipped 1.24% on the same day.
As Metaplanet continues its Bitcoin accumulation strategy, the firm is positioning itself as a leader in digital asset investment within Japan's traditional finance sector. With an eye on 10,000 BTC by 2025, the company remains confident in Bitcoin's long-term value proposition.
