Ethereum’s Holesky Testnet Regains Finality After Pectra Delay

Ethereum’s Holesky testnet hit a milestone on Monday, achieving finality—a state where transactions are permanently locked into the blockchain—nearly two weeks after the rollout of the Pectra upgrade. The breakthrough came at around 19:00 UTC during epoch 119,090, a timeframe when a set number of blocks are finalized, thanks to over two-thirds of validators confirming the network’s activity.
For those unfamiliar, an epoch is like a chapter in Ethereum’s ongoing story, marking the completion of a specific batch of blocks. Finality, which typically secures transactions within two epochs (about 13 minutes), had been missing since February 24 due to a glitch in the client software’s configuration—not the Pectra upgrade itself.
