Drake’s X Account Hacked: Fraudulent Solana Memecoin $ANITA Sparks $5M Trading Frenzy

Late Saturday night, the official X profile of Canadian music icon Drake appeared to fall into the hands of hackers, who used the platform’s reach to push a dubious Solana-based memecoin. The unauthorized posts touted a token supposedly named “Anita,” referencing a cartoon persona closely linked to Drake’s gambling-themed alter ego, Anita Max Wynn.

Drake's X account hacked

The hijacked account reposted and then quoted messages from a now-deleted X handle that claimed the Anita coin was developed in partnership with Stake, the cryptocurrency betting platform famously associated with Drake. This invented currency, dubbed “$ANITA,” borrowed its name from both the Anita Max Wynn character—whose moniker plays on the phrase “I need a max win”—and Drake’s upcoming Anita Max Wynn Tour, marking his first return to Australia and New Zealand since 2017.

Before investors realized they were dealing with a sham, trading activity for the fraudulent token soared. According to DexScreener data, it generated roughly $5 million in volume after being promoted to Drake’s more than 39 million followers on X. Once skepticism set in, interest plummeted, and the deceptive posts were eventually removed from Drake’s profile.

This breach is just the latest in a growing string of incidents where high-profile X accounts are compromised to push questionable crypto schemes. Last Sunday, the Cardano Foundation’s official account was similarly exploited to promote another fraudulent memecoin, though it attracted only about one-tenth of Anita’s trading volume. Other well-known artists, including Cardi B, Doja Cat, and Metallica, have also found themselves on the list of recent hacking victims, underscoring a troubling pattern of cybercriminals targeting celebrity platforms to amplify crypto scams.
